Qualified Counsellors Required

Mankind is a unique agency in Sussex, offering counselling support to men who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. Mankind has been funded by the Ministry of Justice to form a specialist team of 12 freelance qualified counsellors to deliver and develop our therapeutic services. The fund includes remuneration for counselling sessions, individual counsellor training/CPD budgets and an external researcher who will use CORE and counsellor interviews to evaluate the effectiveness of counselling delivered.

Title: Mankind Counsellor

Freelance - £20 per counselling session

Term: 2 year funded project

Hours : Approx. 30 hours per month (4 clients per wk, 4 hours supervision per month, 2 hour counsellor meeting per month, research meetings every 6 months)

Mankind Partnership Programme

We held a workshop in November looking at the way we communicate the issue of rape and sexual abuse against men. We investigated what we need to do as a community to improve services and outcomes for men.

Some of the needs we all identified were:

  • Giving men permission to disclose what has happened to them and giving them a space to talk.
  • Enabling workers in all organisations to gain confidence and to be able to handle the disclosure of sexual abuse and rape sensitively and effectively.
  • Building clear referral pathways so that the journey to getting counselling at Mankind is easy and clear for both men and the agencies that support them.

We have designed a partnership programme that meets these needs and we would like you to be involved.
